Privacy Policy

The Haberdasher Bee Ltd is UK company number 12823809, based in Greater Manchester.

In order to provide the best experience online, this website uses cookies. You can find out more about the different types of cookies and how they are used on my Cookie Policy page.

If you’re getting in touch with me via email or social media, I’ll use your details to respond to you. Your information doesn’t go anywhere other than directly to me. While I do have a newsletter, I won’t automatically add anyone to it – it’s entirely your choice to join the newsletter and you’re welcome to unsubscribe if you like at any point, without having to jump through loads of hoops. I hate spam as much as anyone else – I send out my newsletter once a month only, and I don’t intend to ever increase this.

If you haven’t signed up for my newsletter, the only emails you’ll receive from me will be in connection with an order you have placed, if you’ve contacted me via email and I’m responding, or if I’ve emailed you for a reason related to the operation of The Haberdasher Bee (for example, sending a press release to the editor of a specific magazine or inviting another person to write a guest blog).

Articles in my blog may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. Some of my blogs may include affiliate links for purchasing books via Bookshop.org and I have marked all of these posts with a message at the top. My book recommendations are not chosen for me in any way – I genuinely believe they’re the right books for the topic I’m discussing in the post – but if you use those links to purchase the books I recommend, I do earn some money from your sale.

When ordering from The Haberdasher Bee, I require certain personal information from you. I do not sell your details and only pass them on to third parties when it is necessary in order to ensure your order reaches you or to request feedback on my service, as is outlined in this policy. This website is protected by a security certificate – if you are unsure about whether a page is properly protected, please check for the lock displayed in or next to your browser’s URL bar. In most browsers, where the lock is displayed you can also click on it to view the security certificate, if you choose to do so. When you click on the URL bar of your browser, it should also display “https://” rather than “http://” before my website address.

The details you provide when submitting an order through the website include your contact details plus your address and delivery address (if this is different from your billing address). All of this is needed to ship your order to you. Your name and delivery address are then shared with my delivery partner (this is either Royal Mail or UPS, depending upon the shipping option you have chosen) in order for them to identify the correct person and address to deliver your order to. If you have selected shipping with UPS, you may receive a text message with your tracking details and/or a delivery notification from them. You can read UPS’s privacy policy here.

I do not store any data you provide to me other than what I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Any data required to be stored for this purpose is kept securely. I do not request any data which is of no relevance to providing services to you – such as your gender, political beliefs, religious beliefs, genetic details, etc. All information which is required from you is used solely for the purposes of completing a transaction and ensuring your order reaches you.

The Haberdasher Bee uses Square to process payments for all orders made. Square do not pass any card numbers or other details to me – all your data is encrypted by them and I simply receive the payment. Here’s Square’s privacy policy.

When you place an order, a tree is planted by Ecologi. Ecologi plant trees and support community decarbonisation efforts around the world – you can view my Ecologi forest here, which is comprised of trees planted by The Haberdasher Bee (through the subscription I have with them) and my customers. Ecologi are not given any details relating to your order, not even your name. This is made possible by Zapier, who provide the connection between Square and Ecologi. You can read Ecologi’s privacy policy here and you can find Zapier’s privacy policy here. Previously, Ecologi was connected to Ecwid to facilitate tress being planted for each order. Under this arrangement, only your first name was passed to Ecologi – therefore some trees on my Ecologi forest page do have first names attached to them. No other data was passed to Ecologi.

My Square account is connected to my Trustpilot Business account – when you place an order, whether online or in person at a craft fair, Square’s API lets Trustpilot know your name, email and order details in order to request a review from you. The requested review is for both the service you received and the products you purchased. You will receive one email a week after placing your order and one reminder email approximately a week after the first. After this you won’t receive any further emails from Trustpilot. Trustpilot acts as a data processor and their standard retention period for details passed to them is 3 years. However, as the data controller, I am able to delete data to my own schedule and therefore commit to deleting this data once per quarter. Deleting your data from Trustpilot does not delete reviews, it simply deletes the information gathered to facilitate a review request. For more information, check out Trustpilot’s privacy policy here.

Should I ever become aware of any attempts to breach the site’s security and access any data I may hold, I will immediately employ a cyber security expert to identify and repair the breach. If any data I may hold about you has been compromised, I will inform you immediately and in writing. As I do not operate any account or membership structures, you will not be asked to reset any passwords, however I am required to let you know of any breaches of your data, what data may have been compromised and any further steps which have been identified by our cyber security experts which both you and The Haberdasher Bee must undertake.

If you receive any emails claiming to be from The Haberdasher Bee which you are suspicious about, please do not open them or any attachments they may have and email me separately to report these. Please be aware that such emails may be phishing attacks from parties pretending to be me – examples are emails requesting further payment for an order you’ve placed, or even requesting payment for an order you never placed. I will investigate any such reported emails to ensure no breaches of my security have occurred – and if they have, I will undertake the actions described in the previous paragraph. If you receive a suspicious email, I also recommend that you run an anti-virus and malware check on your device to ensure your device has not been infiltrated by third parties with malicious intent.

This policy may be updated from time to time, including to ensure compliance with any future alterations to data protection laws. These updates will supersede any prior version and the most up to date version will always be available on my website.

Should you have any questions or queries about any of the above or anything that isn’t perhaps covered in this policy, please email me.
